Katya Zelentsova is a London based designer specialising in sentimental Knitwear.
What are your references / what informs your work?
The inspiration comes from both the most curious and positively mundane places, but is always deeply personal: from the resilient practical brilliance of the women in my family to taking a day long train journey sparked by a BBC documentary about an emigre ballerina from fantastical scenarios of time traveling gymnasts the to the simple joys of getting ready for a night out when all else fails, making up pieces on the spot through tipsy draping.

Viewing clothes as a form of unapologetic self-care Katya Zelentsova creates garments that are as sensual as they are comforting (and comfortable!), setting out to achieve the ultimate goal of making clothes that bring you pleasure when everything else goes askew. From tongue-in-cheek loungewear to whimsical takes on established Knitwear staples, every item marries traditional crafts with cutting edge technology in an extravaganza of eclectic sentimentality.

Gimaguas’s world resonates with me both ethically and aesthetically. From their playful and exuberant clothes to their extensive work with local craftsmen and championship of artisans globally, the Gimaguas girl is doing good and having a good time - both causes I am mutually invested in.

What do you enjoy about your craft?
The most exciting thing about Knitwear is the ability to create fabric from scrap and let it organically inform the silhouette of the garments. I like how particular and traditional the construction of knitted garments is: how many rules there are to follow - and to break.
